an experience like no other

A spectacular experience awaits at Babai River Camp, your private luxury tented accommodtion,  located in Bardia National park, home to the endangered one-horned rhino and the elusive Royal Bengal tiger. Bardia, formerly a Royal hunting reserve, is famous for its wildlife which include tiger, leopard, rhino, wild elephant, seven species of deer and antelope, marsh-muggar and gharial crocodiles, and around 400 species of birds.

Situated deep in the Jungle of West Nepal is a river valley that has become the last refuge of the Big Game animals of the Indian Subcontinent. Here herds of Asiatic Elephants graze undisturbed with their young, the Royal Bengal Tiger hunts and prowls in abundant deer country while the One Horned Indian Rhinoceros wallow in the lazy pools of water also shared by the endangered Gharial and the Marsh Mugger Crocodiles.  In this quiet corner of the world only reachable by four wheel drive lies the Babai River Camp.

The culmination of two decades of rafting down the Babai River, much planning, countless reconnaissance trips and the invaluable support of the Bardia National Parkauthorities and the Nepal Army.  A camp that is totally mobile. Setup just a few days before your arrival and then dismantled immediately after to leave the place as it was, back to the wild.  The advantage – an opportunity of a lifetime to live amidst the Subcontinent’s Biggest Game in one of the best spots to see them up close.  The camp lies in an idyllic spot beside the Babai River. Situated inside a Sal (Shorea Robusta) forest the African Style tents stay secluded yet overlook the river and the open southern bank of the Babai where herds of elephants, tiger, deer, otters, etc can be spotted.

LUXURY private camping

Deep inside Bardia National Park amidst local Sal trees lies our luxury camp set up just for you.  These spacious canvas tents have comfortable mattresses, crisp cotton linen with ensuite portable toilets and a beautiful handmade brass sink. Just behind the tents are day time toilets and private showers with herbal shower products.

getting close with nature

At Babai River Camp you become closely attuned with nature as you immerse yourself in safari activities trying to spot numerous wild animals and birds that call Bardia National Park their home.  The silence of the jungle periodically broken by a distant roar of a tiger, or a  trumpeting of  a wild elephent or calls of a peacock.
